Timeshare Ownership or Resort Amenities Without The Costs
March 23rd, 2009Which Makes The Most Sense To YOU?
The fun associated with a great resort for a great and memorable vacation or do you want to “own” the resort (timeshare) hoping for the same results. Having been on both sides of the fence, I can truly say that enjoying a fun-filled vacation at a luxurious resort or condominium without the ownership hassles of timeshare ownership** is the best.
** To me, timeshare ownership is definitely one of the poorest, if not the worst, real estate transaction that anyone can purchase. The problem is at least three-fold.
(1) You tie up $ thousands in the original purchase (that you could spend incrementally on independent vacations at your discretion)
(2) You get hit with assessment and maintenance fees each year that always increase and continue forever (like these fees are passed on to your children as part of your estate. No kidding! The perpetual timeshare contract never ends.)
AND
(3) If you want to sell your timeshare and get out from under the perpetual and growing expense, you will find that you have to pay someone to buy it from you.
( Caution on selling your timeshare: Be very wary of companies who offer to sell your timeshare where they advertise it for you for an upfront fee. My experience is that these can be costly scams; at least I know of two that were from personal experience. )
NOTE: Even if you do have to pay someone to buy your timeshare there is a benefit that you will realize over time. You see, you will be selling your ‘timeshare real estate property’ at a loss, a long-term loss that you can deduct off your taxes overtime. (Please consult with your tax adviser how to best take these deductions.)
Enough of my rantings about all the bad things associated with Timeshare Ownership. What are the good things about timeshares, or more importantly, the resort/condo in the exotic location?
The good things are the wonderful places you get to visit and all the fun you get to enjoy and the memories that linger a lifetime. So… enjoying the world and enjoying a fun-filled vacation at a world class resort or condominium is certainly a wonderful thing.
If you don’t own a timeshare, the alternative is to “own the resort or condo by renting it” with all the benefits and amenities of an owner. Yes, you can rent these wonderful timeshares without being a owner and you can do so with all the benefits with none of the financial and emotional hassles.
There are several travel related firms that offer this and related services and I recommend that you shop around and find the one that meets your needs. In my case, I discovered that Quest Travel Network in conjunction with Hemisphere Travel has more resorts and condominiums and vacation and travel offerings than any other travel-related company.
I liked what I found so I became a member of the Quest Travel Network so that I can enjoy wonderful, fun-filled travel with my family and friends over and over again; and in addition…be able to help and show other folks how to do the same.
